Dresden is in the German State of Saxony. It was in East Germany after World War 2. During the final months of the War , Dresden was bombed by the R.A.F. and U.S Air force. Over 90% of the city was destroyed. Under the Communists after the war they did not restore the Frauenkirche the Luthern church. So it stood as a ruin for over 50 years. Upon German Reunification it as been beautifully restored. Dresden is situated on both banks of the river Elba. -- Berlin is 165 km {103 miles }--Prague in Czech Republic is 150 km {93 miles }. Dresdens main attraction is the Frauenkirche the restored Luthern Church, some call it a Cathedral, but it is not the seat of a Bishop. Originally built between 1726 - 1743. Restored between 1994 and 2004.-----The shining gold statue of Augustus 11 the Strong, is near the bridge with his name. He was one time King of Poland. His Heart is buried in Dresden and his body in Krakow Cathedral.
